As temperature starts soaring higher up, it is a necessity to protect the skin from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun. But with a variety of sunscreen products in the market, how will you know which one is the best for you?

#1. Sunscreen vs Sunblock: Firstly, you must know the difference between sunblock and sunscreen. A sunscreen contains an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 15 or less. SPF of 15 provides a protection of 94% to 95%. On the other hand, a sunblock has an SPF of 30 or more.
#2. Broad Spectrum: Go for the sunscreen which has a ‘Broad Spectrum’ label on it. Long exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun increases the chance of major skin diseases. A broad-spectrum sunscreen provides adequate protection from the harmful ultraviolet-A and ultraviolet-B rays.
#3. Zinc Oxide: Buy a sunscreen which has zinc oxide in it. Zinc oxide helps to prevent the UV rays cause damage to the skin of your ears, nose and lips. Although the zinc-oxide sunscreens are opaque, new products have been launched so that users can avoid that typical ‘white-nose’ look.
#4. Waterproof: Sunscreen lotions are must-have items during beach trips. And when you are on a beach, chances are high that you will be heading for the water. Even if that is not the case, you will be sweating none the less. Therefore, choose a waterproof sunscreen, and the layer is not going to get washed away.
#5. Ingredients: Opt for a sunscreen which hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and PABA (Para-aminobenzoic Acid)-free. Also make sure that the lotion is non-comedogenic i.e. it won’t be blocking the pores of your skin.
For best results, you need to put the sunscreen on at least 30 minutes prior to stepping outside in the sun. Re-apply it once every 2 or 3 hours, and your skin will surely remain safe from sunburns and other severe conditions.
