Google’s Chromecast is a 2.83-inch dongle available only in the United States since July 2013. It can be plugged into the HDMI port of a television, and can be controlled from your computer or a supported app on your Smartphone. With the Chromecast attached to your television, you can access any video content from Google Play Movies & TV, Google Play Music, Netflix, and YouTube. Hulu Plus has also got introduced into the list since October 2, 2013. Once the dongle is in place, you need your controller device connect with the same Wi-Fi. They will identify one another, and will guide you through the rest of the process.
So it’s pretty evident that if you’re tired of watching videos on your small laptop or Smartphone screen, you can insert this dongle into the HDMI port and get things rolling. But is this the only reason why you’ll buy the Chromecast? Maybe yes, but it’s also better for you to know why your purchase is the best in the market right now.
#1. The Development Kit: The Software Development Kit (SDK) of the Chromecast is compatible with various platforms. Until its official release, the dongle is limited to 3 Google-sanctioned applications – Google Play, YouTube and Netflix. This means that local media streaming is not available yet (it’ll be made available in future though) and as a result, developers cannot get their wares on your television set.
#2. Streaming Without An App: When more and more people are desiring a way to watch television without using the traditional cable connection, Chromecast is a dream come true. The ones who already own the Chromecast are making great use of it streaming HBO Go and DIRECTTV2PC with the use of Chrome browser windows.
#3. The Cost-Effectiveness: The price at which Chromecast is available for purchase is a mere $35. This “dirt cheap” cost has already started acting as a motivation for customers, and as a result, the rate of sales is also pretty high. Perhaps, the cost will rise a little as more and more people become aware of it. But rest assured, the cost will remain well within our reach.
